The wood in Castelfidardo,
known as “La Selva Montoro” is situated on a
hill about 6 km from the sea. Nowadays it
covers an area of 30 hectares whereas at the
beginning of the 17th century there was a
very large forest between two rivers. Its
flora is characterised by lots of rare
plants and varies according to the altitude.
In fact on the higher ground we can find
oaks (Sempervirentis-Quercetum Pubescentis)
whereas on the lower, flatter and cooler
area there are plants such as Sessile Oaks
and British Oaks and Birches.
The latter type of vegetation
is the most significant as it can be found
in some forests in Central Europe.
